Sindh Graduates Association (SGA) is striving to provide quality and standardized services in the field of Education, Health, Social Mobilization, Poverty Alleviation, HRD, Advocacy and Awareness etc since its inception 1972. The aims and objectives of providing above services to the deserving and vulnerable communities is to construct and develop a peaceful society in Sindh. In Health Sector, SGA is providing services by conducting regular free Medical camps, Emergency Services at Nooriabad, Super Highway, Dispensaries and Mother Child Health Centre in Hyderabad, Thull (Jacoobabad) and Khipro (Sanghar). These services are continued and regular, providing health facilities to the local communities in collaboration with local Volunteers of SGA Branches, Community Notable, Philanthropists, Actionaid Pakistan and Sindh Graduates Association (SGA). Besides above, SGA in collaboration with Actionaid Pakistan is providing following services in Reproductive Health (RH) in Haji Banko Chanhio and Sahar Chanhio, UC Kamil Hingoro, Taluka Khipro, Sanghar:
In Mother Child Health Centre, Thul, Jaccobabad, SGA is providing Health and Education facilities for healthier family planning. It is run by SGA Branch Thul purely on voluntary basis since 1994. The services provided to the local community has been touched at 87,600 patients. Dr. Yasmeen Shaikh Memorial Emergency Medical Center (YASMEC) was established in 1993 in a non functional BHU at Nooriabad (District Dadu) on the main National highway almost half-way between Karachi and Hyderabad. This is one of the foremost examples of public-private partnership in health in Pakistan, where the government handed over its facility to an NGO. The Centre has been functioning 24 hours as: (a) first aid and resuscitation center for road accident victims on the Highway, (b) ambulance services for transporting victims at a nominal fee (c) first aid to industrial workers meeting accidents in the surrounding Industrial zone, (d) outdoor primary medical care for people in the surrounding villages, and (e) immunization of children and pregnant women. In previous days, SGA was running Juma (Friday) clinics started in 1993 in 14 locations (Thatta, Talhar, Kod Bhanojo, Shahpur Chakar, Sakrand, Sehwan, Khudaabad, Johi, Mehar, Hingorja, Naudero, Shikarpur, Ghotki and Karachi East) in collaboration with local SGA Branches and Volunteers in Sindh. The Juma Clinics were providing basic medical care to men, woman and children free of cost to over 50,000 clients over a period of two years. But with the passage of time, the Juma Clinics were up graded to Mother Child Health Centres in collaboration / funded by Trust for Voluntary Organization (TVO) in 1994-95. LHVs were posted, who provided antenatal care, maternity services, immunization, growth monitoring, family planning and health education to a beneficiary population of 150,000 women and children and remained operative for a period of 2 years. Emergency Medical Camps: SGA has organized emergency medical camps in times of floods and droughts, where services have been provided free of cost. The costs have been met through mobilization of members and resources. Assessment of BHUs in Sindh: SGA has conducted a rapid assessment of 276 BHUs in Six Districts of Sindh like Hyderabad (Old), Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, Nausheroferoz, Shikarpur and Jaccobabad in collaboration with Government of Sindh in the year 2005-06 |
